The elements for metal zips are made from aluminum, brass, stainless steel, etc., which are then placed on both sides of the zip tape at regular intervals.

Incorrect use of metal zips will lead to malfunctioning and shorten their service life. Please refer to this general guide when using metal zips.

Application
Metal zips are preferred for various casual style garments as well as the mid and high end luggage and bags. However, don`t attach them to any curving applications as this can result in uneven force applied to both sides of the zip, which in turn can lead to the looseness and deflection of the teeth elements and affect the smoothness in opening and closing the zip.

Fabric

  • Don`t sew metal zips in dark colors onto the light color fabrics.
  • Don`t use metal zips for the silk fabrics which are prone to fluffing.
  • Opt for larger zip sizes (>4#) with Y-cut teeth for the fabrics that are heavier than 12 ounce in weight to minimize the chances of damage and malfunction.

Cleaning
Don`t spray the chemical agents used for removing rust, oil stain or dirt when manufacturing the garments or bags directly onto the metal accessories to protect them against oxidation and discoloration.

Ironing

  • Ensure the zip does not come into direct contact with the iron.
  • Cover the teeth surface with a sheet of cloth/paper to stop the protective layer from melting and staining the garment due to high temperature ironing.

Packaging

  • Don`t package the products immediately after ironing.
  • Don`t use any plastic bags that are not breathable for packaging to save the metal accessories from oxidization and discoloration, and prevent the teeth elements from corrosion and peeling off.

Storage

  • Don`t store the products in any corrosive or damp environment.
  • Don`t subject the products to strong sunlight directly for a long time.
